ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION RESULTS

After doing a lot of Artificial inseminations over the years we often get asked for recommendations so we decided to unselfishly publish our results to assist other breeders.

The success of Artificial Insemination does (I believe) depend largely upon both the quality of the semen and the competency of your reproductive vet.  As frozen semen generally only lives 12 hours after implant the timing needs to be impeccable.  Your vet needs to be 100% dedicated to this cause 24 X 7 and prepared to work weekends and holidays etc if need be.

When you look at the statistics please note we do not consider “1 puppy” to be a success or constitute “a litter”.  This may seem a little harsh however a single puppy usually means an expensive Caesarian which is not pleasant for the brood bitch. Single puppies often have to be hand reared as the mother does not have enough hormones to produce adequate milk. The puppy has to be kept (run on by the breeder) and with only 1 the end result is often a puppy that doesn’t turn out to be suitable to breed on with.  A singleton litter often equates to a worse financial loss than no puppies at all.

Bear in mind these are our experiences only - other breeders may have had completely different results with the same vets.
